Japanese architect Terunobu Fujimori's project features a chapel that combines the appearance of a simple Japanese hut with the symbolism of the Christian cross. Externally, the chapel is black, with a sloping roof and a portico made of burned logs, using a material preservation technique called SHOU SUGI BAN.
The chapel has two entrances; the one on the main facade is very narrow, allowing access for one person at a time. A second door is located on the side of the building.
Internally, the chapel is a rectangular space with a single nave, featuring some benches. Wooden structures form a cross, adorned with gold leaf and illuminated from above. The walls are white, except for the one behind the cross, decorated with small pieces of coal that the architect personally attached.
