English architect Norman Foster chose a space framed by two old trees for his chapel, creating a sacred place defined by a path enclosed in a light envelope, adorned with jasmine and shade, resembling the effect of a nomadic tent. The slightly inclined L-shaped platform guides the visitor to the surprise of the view of the lagoon.
The construction solution employs cables and struts, forming what is known as a tensegrity structure. Tapered trees on the ground and steel cross elements symbolizing three crosses make up the structure. The envelope filtering sunlight consists of slender, closely spaced larch wood slats that are slightly movable. Benches placed at the end of the path allow for a contemplative moment, while a triangular wooden element concluding the path symbolizes an altar reminiscent of the stern of a ship.
